Hologram Rings

Francis Merlyn Doody’s Hologram Rings are contemporary interpretations of the ancient Roman Ring of Carvilio.

The original first-century gold ring features a miniature portrait protected beneath a domed rock crystal. The curved crystal acts as a lens, magnifying the portrait and creating its distinctive three-dimensional, hologram-like effect.

Francis reimagines this ancient technique through his own symbolic imagery. Each design is intricately hand carved and set beneath a domed stone that acts as a lens, enlarging and transforming the miniature image below.

As a contemporary memento mori jeweller, Francis uses miniature skulls, eyes and symbolic imagery to explore mortality, remembrance and the passage of time.

Every Hologram Ring is individually designed and handmade in sterling silver at Francis’s studio in Mid Wales.
